If you haven’t heard of the electrifying singing competition, The Voice, you are in for a treat! Debuting in 2011, the show has discovered hundreds of unsigned rising stars including artists Koryn Hawthorne, Nicolle Galyon, Cassadee Pope, Christina Grimmie, Danielle Bradbery, Morgan Wallen, Jordan Smith, and Loren Allred (Cohn, 2024). Each contestant must give a blind performance to a panel of famous artists and judges such as Blake Shelton, Ariana Grande, Usher, and more. Based on the number of votes from the judges, the contestant gets to decide whose team they want to be trained on. From there, they must compete for their chance at stardom. However, The Voice isn’t just excelling in finding incredible talent across the world, its digital presence is skyrocketing to new heights.
Successfully Meeting the Wants and Needs of Its Audience
When it comes to The Voice, no one can beat its impeccable audience interaction and involvement. From authentic stories from coaches and artists to allowing real-time audience voting privileges, The Voice meets the needs of all its fans.
The Voice Instant Save allows fans to “vote via tweets for the artists they want to save from elimination and results are shown on-air in real time” (ShortyAwards, 2024). This changes the TV series’ dynamic by allowing fans to become participants. This became one of the most successful Social TV integrations of all time and continues to attract viewers and participants each year.
Let’s not forget about Skybox, The Voice’s “dedicated on-air segment to showcase social, used for social calls to action, sharing UGC content, showcasing backstage Vines, discussing Twitter conversations between talent, and more” (ShortyAwards, 2024). This allows conversations to happen in real time as the show is being aired. Short-form videos, conversations, discussions, and invitations for audience members to participate, allow for audience engagement and reactions while the show is performing.
Finally, The Voice’s personalized content is created using a specific hashtag, #ChairMeUp. This gives audience members a special gift from The Voice industry; “a graphic with their name on the back of a Voice chair” to show its fans the appreciation they deserve (ShortyAwards, 2024). What better way to represent the show than sharing your personalized graphic on social media and letting others know how they can get their personalized graphic?
The Voice dedicates itself to its fans and shows its appreciation by allowing the audience to participate in the judging process through conversations, tweets, and discussions, and allowing them to save their favorite performer from elimination. The Voice knows that its fans have a voice of their own and are willing to trust in their opinions. They also show their appreciation through a fun hashtag that sends fans a personalized graphic to show their participation in the series. This has become one of the most successful integrations of Social TV today and will continue to grow in the future.
The Voice’s Digital Presence Today
Of course, The Voice didn’t stop there! They continued to grow their audiences and engagements through the use of their social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. But what kind of TV series wouldn’t take advantage of TikTok’s short-form videos that entrance their fans? The Voice saw the potential and, boy, did they deliver by including behind-the-scenes content, funny clips, and short performances, all drawing the attention of new fans both young and old.
The Voice also created an exclusive backstage pass to the show by creating a separate channel for fans to participate in polls, videos, and more! This allows fans to have an even bigger participation and opinion on the outcome of the performances and how the show can better suit its audience members.
However, the newest addition of The Voice is its mobile app. It has made the biggest impact on the show featuring new ways to receive up-to-date content, interactions, and a way for audiences to earn points. Not only can you watch performances, view artist profiles, and earn points, but you can also build a fantasy team! Fantasy teams have created a huge buzz in the sports world, so why not use it in building your dream team of performers?
The Voice has set the example time and time again, from past to present, that Social TV integration is the most successful way to reach ultimate audience engagement and participation. It strives to meet its diverse audience’s expectations and goes above and beyond for its fans. In the ever-changing world of digital media, The Voice excelled in providing the best consumer experience and will continue to do so in the future. What’s next The Voice?
